Challenge
Design a usable application to locate local sporting activities using thorough planning and user-centered design strategies.
Solution
As a two-person design team, we design functional mock-ups and prototypes for further usability testing and research.

Project Overview
Project completion would be an app where users can discover, promote and create an interactive map to find their favorite sports-related events. Users will also be able to customize their profile, check out tutorials suited to their interests, contribute to discussions, review locations, and choose from a wide variety of sports activities.

The Discovery
Prior to building the app or establishing a user, we researched the industry and other apps similar to our idea. We found what we knew could improve the industry by analyzing competitor apps. Once we had a good understanding of our goals we developed user cases and customer personas. This allowed us to understands our user’s needs. To conclude the research phase we also conducted surveys to gauge the type of user(tech-savvy or not) we would be testing.

Adam Walker is a user persona we defined
After researching the target audience we concluded that there were 3 common goals that we would focus on for the first round of testing. The goals are as follows:
- Finding top-rated sporting events near the user.
- Create and promote events.
- Provide credible event-ranking systems.
Process
Our team used Diagrams, Figma and Google Meet to conduct meetings and go over designs together. Once we decided what our apps’ flow would be we used Diagram to create screen flows. In Figma, we were able to convert our sketch mockups into wireframes. After our wireframes were complete we used the theme to create wire flows.
Design
These are the brand guidelines we developed for this product
Solution
We created a clean, beautiful sports app with the ability to search locations, sports, or events as well as share content, and interact with others. Using high-quality imagery and a well-balanced color palette we were able to create the feeling of wanting to get out and get active. The interactive map was the stand-out feature making it easier for users to find what they are looking for.
Results
Overall, the app is easy to use and sets the mood to get any sports activity started. There were some hiccups for some users because of the hierarchy of the design but not necessarily because the flow didn’t work. We measured on a 1-3 scale difficulty level, 1 being the easiest and 3 the most difficult. Out of the 10 tasks, 5 tasks were easy for every tester.

What I learned
I learned that depending on the user interface and action that browsing could be more enjoyable than searching. Language is very important when telling the story of your app, one small mistake could cause confusion to the user.
