Project Overview

A local San Diego resident wanted to turn her hobby of harvesting and bundling sage into a side hustle. She wanted a website that will allow her to upload and sell her bundles as well as share her knowledge of holistic care alternatives.

Process

The primary focus prior to designing this site was defining who The Sage Dealer’s audience is and how she wanted to communicate to them. Once we established the audience I began to create a look and feel to the brand. I created a foundation for the brand by designing a logo and style guide. I used this as the baseline for all the visuals for the marketing and site. For the next step in the process, I created wireframes and turned them into rough UI comps. I then was able to begin developing a WordPress Theme site with the UI comps as my reference.

Design

For the design of the site, I was inspired by the minimalistic style and knew this would be a great solution to allow the color in the images to be the focal point and complement the overall look. I used a sans serif font for readability purposes as well as it gives the site a clean modern feel. To complement the san serif and display font for subheaders and quotes.

Solution

I designed a clean minimalistic WordPress theme that is perfect for a small eCommerce site. With blog capabilities, the owner of the site can add content to keep the site updated and fresh with new information.

What I Learned

This project was my first project where I developed my own WordPress Theme and used Woocomerce. With that being said, essentially I learned how to work with WordPress and understand how the admin panel, widgets, and plugins work to build out your own theme.
